What is involved in designing an orthosis?

The typical procedure for designing your custom orthosis consists of the following steps:

  • Casting of the patient's affected limb or torso
  • Removal of the cast
  • Filling the cast with plaster to acquire a statue
  • Modifying the statue
  • Molding of component parts
  • Assembling the components into one complete orthosis
  • Fitting the brace on the patient
  • Adjustments to the brace to assure proper fit
  • Follow-up visits

How long does it take to design a custom orthosis?

It usually takes one to two weeks to complete and fit a custom orthosis.
